World Championship Sand Sculpting 2018

June – August 19

Lange Voorhout

The creation of the sculptures by the artists will take place from Monday, June 4 until Tuesday, June 12. During this period, the public can watch the artists at work from 9 am to 5 pm. The competition will be officially closed on Tuesday 12 June at 2 pm. Judging will then follow and at 17.00 pm the new world champion will be announced. The sand artworks can then be viewed free of charge until 19 August 2018.

Each horse driven carriage has its own experienced coachman and footman both dressed in style, who will tell you all bout the King’s city of Residence. The trip goes part past the stately Lange Voorhout, Noordeinde Palace and the Denneweg with its antique shops and busy cafes, amongst other things.

 

 

Volvo Ocean Race Finish

The Volvo Ocean Race is the longest and toughest sailing race in the world. In June 2018, this legendary race will, for the first time in its history, finish in The Netherlands. After sailing 45,000 nautical miles, the city of The Hague is the ultimate destination.

 

Zeeheldenfestival

Zeeheldenkwartier

The Zeeheldenfestival on The Hague’s Prins Hendrikplein started out as a modest party in 1981 to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the neighbourhood association. Now, the party has grown into a 5-day spectacle with 50 performances for hedonists of all ages. There are children’s activities, entertainment, art, dance, music and delicious food and drinks. All kinds of bands will take to the stage to offer festivalgoers a plethora of musical styles from rockabilly and pop, to ska and hip hop.

The Hague Contemporary Weekend

From Friday the 6th until Sunday the 8th of July The Hague will transform into one big contemporary art festival! For three days twenty museums, galeries, artist initiatives and art spaces open their doors for an elaborate programme of openings, performances, artist talks, tours, club/performance nights, film screenings and more. The The Hague Contemporary Weekend 2018 takes place during the Graduation Festival of the Royal Academy of Art The Hague. On Friday the 6th of July, there will be a collaborative opening of this weekend of contemporary art in The Hague.

Prins Hendrik Zomerfeest

Enjoy the summer atmosphere during the second season of the Prins Hendrikstraat in The Hague Zeeheldenkwartier! Summer has started and there is no better place to celebrate than in the nicest street in The Hague.

 

In collaboration with the Zeeheldenfestival a party with a sunflower yellow touch. There is a real soapbox race, local market, mini workshops (make your own kokedama at Bar and Zo), live music from the Zeeheldenfestival, old Dutch games (think of sackcloth, gingerbread, mikado XL, hopscotch, potato syrups and shuffles), food and drinks.

 

The Hague Cultural Parade

The Hague Cultural Parade is a multicultural parade with 1,000 participants that dance their way through the city showcasing it’s cultural richness in terms of clothing, music and dance. The Cultural Parade is a free outdoor activity. Everybody young and old, male and female, native and immigrant, residents and visitors, are welcome to visit this event and feel right at home.

 

The Hague Beach Marathon

Sunday 8 July, 7:00 AM – 9:30 PM

Scheveningen Beach Resort

The Hague Beach Marathon, also known as the Black Marathon, takes runners through Scheveningen, Wassenaar and Katwijk to Noordwijk and back. There are also various distances for walkers: 5, 10, 21, 30 and 42 km. These disciplines have a window to start in the morning from the clubhouse of The Hague Road Runners while the runners start in the late afternoon

 

Haags Beat Festival

The Popagenda Scheveningen Foundation presents the Hague Beat Festival in collaboration with the Zuiderparktheater. The organization and the open-air theater want to pay tribute to the artists that have put The Hague on the map in the history of pop music.

An extreme test of fitness crossing the border of the beach and sea. We are looking to find the fittest same sex partner team in Europe and at the same time create the most fun and entertaining Fitness Festival in Europe for athletes and spectators.

Combine the laid back atmosphere of the beach and blend it with the competitive and community spirit of the European CrossFit Community. In the Alpha Division competitors will battle for a total of € 6.000,- in cash prizes and in the other category’s our partners have provided great prizes.

With the Mets Tennis courts as the widely trusted décor, the tournament is a huge success every year. The Hague Open, formerly known as Siemens Open and Sport1 Open, is the place for upcoming national and international tennis talent wanting to improve their position in the ATP ranking.

Activities

NK Beach Soccer

Every summer, The Dutch KNVB Beach Soccer Championships take place at The Hague Beach Stadium in Scheveningen. The beach soccer tournament has participants from several categories. The competition marks the end of the beach soccer season, and is expected to be a soccer spectacle. Everyone can enjoy this sporting event and admission is free of charge.

The Hague Beach Stadium, next to the northern pier in Scheveningen, is the largest outdoor beach sport stadium in the Netherlands. This sports venue is specially designed for beach sports. The Hague Beach Stadium on The Hague / Scheveningen beach is available from mid-May to mid-September. Admission to The Hague Beach Stadium is free.

 

Actualiteitsrondleiding: 100 jaar kiesrecht

ProDemos – Huis voor democratie en rechtsstaat

In de jaren 2017-2019 is het 100 jaar geleden dat het algemeen kiesrecht werd ingevoerd, eerst voor mannen en later ook voor vrouwen. Maar mocht de 18-jarige postbode toen ook al stemmen? Het antwoord verklappen we alvast: pas vanaf 1972 mag je vanaf je achttiende stemmen. Een overweging daarbij was dat jongens vanaf hun achttiende dienstplichtig waren. Als je kon vechten en sterven voor het land, zou je toch ook moeten kunnen meebeslissen over de politiek?

Tijdens deze rondleiding door de Ridderzaal en Tweede Kamer legt de gids extra de nadruk op de evolutie van het Nederlands kiesrecht. Ook neemt u deel aan de workshop ‘allemaal naar het stemlokaal’ om antwoord te geven én te krijgen op de vraag ‘wie mocht wanneer stemmen?’.

The art and antiques market is a veritable smorgasbord for lovers of antiques, curios, old prints & books, paintings and objets d’art. The people who buy here love making investments. A cosy stall full of old picture postcards, sorted by theme and in kept in attractive boxes, attracts an amazing amount of interest.

Listen to old Dutch songs being played on the organ; behold an antique, tin ‘Haagse Hopjes’ (little sweets) box from 1890, or find an old painting that can exchange hands for a good price. Bookworms will also love the scores of bookstalls.

 

Kunstroute fietstocht Zuiderpark

More than thirty exceptional works of art by (inter) nationally known visual artists can be admired in the Zuiderpark. This unique collection is always subject to change. New images regularly appear, and in addition, STROOM The Hague provides surprising acquisitions: (orphan) images that can no longer remain in their own place in the city are given a new purpose in the Zuiderpark. On the other hand, STROOM also places images from the park back in the city. Together with an enthusiastic guide, get acquainted with the images in the park by bike. Participants in the bike ride receive a beautifully published route description with an overview and description of all the images, so that you can cycle the route yourself.
